MINNEAPOLIS, July 23 (UPI) -- Solo home runs by Ryan Raburn and Jhonny Peralta in the first two innings Friday started the Detroit Tigers on their way to an 8-2 triumph over Minnesota.
Peralta had four RBI as part of Detroit's fourth win in five games. He singled in two runs in the third and doubled home another in the fifth.
The Tigers built an 8-1 lead through six innings and coasted behind the four-hit pitching of Max Scherzer.
Scherzer (11-5) allowed a lone run with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings.
Minnesota suffered its fourth loss in six games, slowing down a surge that had seen the Twins move to within five games of the division lead.
Brian Duensing (7-8) lost for the first time in five starts, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
