PHILADELPHIA, July 22 (UPI) -- Cole Hamels allowed three hits and struck out 10 over eight innings Friday in leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over San Diego.

Hamels (12-5) had allowed a season-worst seven earned runs in his previous outing, July 16 against the New York Mets, but dominated the Padres while throwing 100 pitches.

Philadelphia captured its third in a row and snapped San Diego's three-game winning streak.

Ryan Madson worked a perfect ninth for his 16th save.

Shane Victorino opened the scoring for the Phillies in the second when he came in on a fielding error by center fielder Cameron Maybin on a ball hit by Carlos Ruiz.

Victorino scored again in the fourth on a balk by losing pitcher Cory Luebke (3-4) and John Mayberry doubled home a run later in that inning.

Philadelphia has defeated San Diego in eight straight meetings. Luebke gave up six hits in five innings.
