CLEVELAND, July 22 (UPI) -- Gavin Floyd gave up four hits over 7 2/3 innings Friday and teamed with two relievers to give the Chicago White Sox a 3-0 blanking of Cleveland.
Floyd (8-9) has allowed only one earned run on 10 hits over a combined 15 1/3 innings during his last two starts.
After throwing 99 pitches, Floyd was replaced by Matt Thornton with runners on second and third and two away in the eighth. Thornton got Orlando Cabrera on a deep fly ball to left to end the inning.
Thornton stayed on to start the ninth, but gave way to Sergio Santos with a runner on and two out. Santos retired the only man he faced for his 19th save.
All the scoring came on a three-run homer by Carlos Quentin in the fifth. Quentin had three hits.
Carlos Carrasco (8-8) gave up the home run and five other hits over 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.
