Report: Suspect cleared in fan beating

LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Police have exonerated a suspect in the beating of a San Francisco Giants fan and have arrested two others in the case, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Bryan Stow was beaten while attending a Los Angeles-San Francisco game and police eventually arrested Giovanni Ramirez in the incident. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck has said the case against Ramirez was based on eyewitness identifications.

The Times reported Thursday investigators have now determined Ramirez was not responsible for Stow's injuries. Instead, additional arrests have been made, although there was no indication as to the evidence that led police to take such action.

Anthony Brooklier, the attorney for Ramirez, told the Times he had not been informed by police that his client had been cleared and that others had been arrested.

"I haven't heard anything yet," Brooklier said. "But if it's true I'm happy for my client. I always believed he was factually innocent. There was a lot of pressure on LAPD. I believe that they were operating in good faith and made a good faith mistake."
