DETROIT, July 20 (UPI) -- The Detroit Red Wings announced Wednesday they have signed goalie Ty Conklin, one day after veteran netminder Chris Osgood announced his retirement.
Conklin, 35, embarks on his second stint with the Red Wings, for whom he played in the 2008-09 season, when he appeared in a career-high 40 games and posted a 25-11-2 record with a 2.51 goals-against average.
Osgood that season carried Detroit to within one game of a second straight Stanley Cup title.
Jimmy Howard is likely to get most of the playing time in net for the Red Wings next season.
Conklin has compiled a 91-61-20 record with a 2.64 GAA and 16 shutouts in 200 career games with the Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and the Red Wings.
