MINNEAPOLIS, July 20 (UPI) -- Danny Valencia singled home the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning Wednesday and the Minnesota Twins went on to a 7-5 victory over Cleveland.

Alexi Casilla led off the eighth with a double off Tony Sipp (4-2) and the Twins loaded the bases when Joe Mauer followed with a single and Jim Thome walked with one out.

Vinnie Pestano came in to pitch and Valencia greeted him with a sharp liner that just eluded second baseman Orlando Cabrera, falling into right field for a go-ahead base hit.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka then grounded a hit past diving Indians shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera for two more runs, and the Twins held on to salvage a four-game split the Indians, moving them to within five games of the AL Central leaders.

Matt Capps (3-5) earned the victory by retiring the final two batters in the eighth inning after Jose Mijares had allowed Asdrubal Cabrera's lead-off double.

Joe Nathan picked up his sixth save despite allowing a ninth-inning solo homer to Larry Chisenhall.

Tribe starter Josh Tomlin allowed four runs on eight hits before exiting after six frames.
