NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- The family of a New York teenager killed in a crash involving LA Laker Lamar Odom, husband of reality-TV star Khloe Kardashian, says it has donated his organs.

Awsaf Islam, who was riding a scooter when he was hit at the intersection of 45th Street and 48th Avenue, died at Elmhurst Hospital Center Friday, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Police said motorcyclist Christian Mora, 32, of Queens, was turning in the intersection when he hit the front bumper of a Cadillac Escalade livery cab carrying the LA Lakers star and spun out and hit Awsaf.

Mora was in stable condition at Elmhurst Hospital Center while Odom and the cab driver, Wessppim Depena, 32, were not injured, the New York Daily News reported.

Witnesses to the crash said Aswaf was ignored by bystanders who focused on the presence of an NBA celebrity.

"Everybody was paying attention to him. Nobody cared about the kid," Adolfo Ramirez, 13, said.

"It was messed up," witness Naldo Vasquez, 15, said. "They got excited and were asking to take photos with him."

Awsaf's relatives made the painful decision to have doctors harvest his organs to help others, sources said.

The teen's uncle said the boy's mother has been too traumatized to return to her apartment since the death of her only son.

"He was like a prince," Mizanur Rahman told the Post.

No charges have been filed in the accident but an investigation was ongoing, police said.
