ATLANTA, July 19 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded American Alex Bogomolov Jr. was among the casualties at the Atlanta Tennis Championships Monday, losing in the first round to Gilles Muller.

Bogomolov fell to Luxembourg's Muller 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) on the hard courts of Racquet Club of the South.

No. 8 seed Somdev Devvarman fared better, downing Ryan Sweeting of the United States 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

A lengthy rain delay in the day's last match didn't deter American James Blake, who overcame a first-set loss to defeat Latvian Ernests Gulbis 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Also Monday, Tatsuma Ito of Japan bested Germany's Michael Berrer 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 and American Michael Russell dispatched countryman Donald Young 6-0, 6-3.
