
SAN FRANCISCO, July 19 (UPI) -- Ryan Vogelsong tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Pablo Sandoval homered Monday in the San Francisco Giants' 5-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Vogelsong (7-1) scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out five, extending his unbeaten streak to nine starts while lowering his ERA to a National League-best 2.02.
Jeremy Affeldt and Ramon Ramirez completed the shutout for the first-place Giants, who took the opener of a three-game series with the Dodgers.
Sandoval (3-for-4) hit a long blast in the fourth to break a scoreless tie, Cody Ross added a two-run double and Nate Schierholtz chipped in with two hits and an RBI for the victors.
San Francisco's Miguel Tejada left the game in the third inning with a strained side muscle, sustained while trying to field a ground ball.
Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (8-8) surrendered five runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.
