KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 19 (UPI) -- Mark Buehrle tossed seven strong innings and the Chicago White Sox scored a pair of decisive sixth-inning runs Monday in their 5-2 win over Kansas City.
Buehrle (7-5) held the Royals to two runs on five hits in a seven-inning start, issuing only one walk and striking out three.
The White Sox handed him the victory in the sixth.
With the score tied 2-2, A.J. Pierzynski drew a one-out walk from Kansas City starter Kyle Davies (1-9) and went to third on Alcides Escobar's throwing error on Gordon Beckham's grounder.
Mark Teahen drove Pierzynski home with a groundout off reliever Everett Teaford and Juan Pierre followed with an RBI single for the White Sox, who took the opener of a three-game series.
Davies surrendered four runs (two earned) on five hits over 5 1/3 frames, dropping his eighth straight start.
