VIRGINIA WATER, England, July 18 (UPI) -- The 140th British Open belonged to Darren Clarke with golf's bigger names dropping away and only Dustin Johnson creating a change in the world Top 10.

Clarke won the British Open by building such a cushion that two closing bogeys only cut his final margin to three strokes. It was an impressive victory for the 42-year-old from Northern Ireland.

He moved from 111th to 30th in the world men's golf rankings, updated Monday, while the top of the rankings saw few changes. Five of last week's Top 10 missed the cut at the Royal St. George's Golf Club and only one was better than a tie for 12th.

Johnson, who finished tied for second with Phil Mickelson, moved into the Top 10, going from 12th to seventh and that pushed a pair of golfers down one spot each. Another -- Graeme McDowell, last week's No. 9 -- fell two spots.

McDowell was among those who missed the cut Friday but he was in good company. Also not around for the weekend were No. 1 Luke Donald and second-ranked Lee Westwood. No. 8 Matt Kuchar and No. 10 Nick Watney also missed the cut.

Donald leads the rankings with 9.64 average with Westwood second at 8.477. Martin Kaymer (7.381) is third after a tie for 12th and Rory McIlroy (7.163), who tied for 25th, is fourth. Steve Stricker (7.048) also tied for 12th and keeps the No. 5 ranking spot.

Mickelson is again sixth with an average of 6.38 and Johnson's average is 5.863. Kuchar (5.462) dropped one place to eighth and Jason Day (5.374) is ninth. Watney (5.305) is No. 10.
