FOXBOROUGH, Mass., July 17 (UPI) -- Carlos Ruiz and Carlos Valdes scored in the first half Sunday and the Philadelphia Union breezed to a 3-0 win over New England.
Keon Daniel headed a pass across the goal to Ruiz, who made a lunge and stabbed the ball over New England goalie Matt Reis in the 12th minute for the Union's first goal.
Twelve minutes later, Philadelphia made it 2-0 when Sebastien Le Toux gained control of a free kick in the area and headed the ball into the middle for Valdes, who tapped it in from close range.
Sheanon Williams added a third goal in stoppage time for the Union (8-4-7), which leads the Eastern Conference by two points.
Chris Tierny hit the upright early in the second half for New England (3-9-7), which hasn't won in nine matches.
