Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BAD GASTEIN, Austria, July 16 (UPI) -- Wildcard Patricia Mayr-Achleitner delighted her Austrian countrymen Saturday by blanking Ksenia Pervak in the semifinals of the Gastein Ladies Open.
Mayr-Achleitner blew by the eighth-seeded Russian 6-0, 6-0 in 48 minutes to advance to Sunday's finals match against Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
Martinez Sanchez ousted Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine Saturday 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
Martinez Sanchez and Mayr-Achleitner have met once before in the semifinals of the 2009 Bogota tournament with Martinez Sanchez coming away with the victory. Like this week's Gastein tourney, the Bogota event was played on clay.
