Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 16 (UPI) -- Columbus Crew goalkeeper Will Hesmer made a brilliant save in the 75th minute Saturday, preserving a 0-0 draw with San Jose.
Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski found himself in a great position to score but Hesmer stretched to tip the ball over the crossbar.
Robbie Rogers had the Crew's best scoring chance in the 43rd minute but was stopped by San Jose netminder Jon Busch in a reaction save.
With the point, Columbus (7-5-7) pulled into a three-way tie for first place in the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia Union and Red Bull New York.
The Earthquakes also gained a point with the draw, moving to 5-6-8.
