BRIDGEVIEW, Ill., July 16 (UPI) -- Jack Jewsbury scored on a penalty kick midway through the first half Saturday and the Portland Timbers eked out a 1-0 win over Chicago.

Jorge Perlaza was brought down by Chicago defender Gonzalo Segares at the top of the box in the 25th minute and Jewsbury converted the ensuing penalty kick to give the Fire the advantage.

The goal gave Portland (6-9-3) its first road tally since May 14, snapping a 229-minute scoreless streak away from home.

Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins made several crucial saves to preserve the victory and earn three points for Portland.

Chicago fell to 2-6-12.
