Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ATLANTA, July 16 (UPI) -- John Lannan went 5 2/3 innings for a victory and knocked in a pair of runs Saturday in the Washington Nationals' 5-2 win over Atlanta.
Lannan (6-6) held the Braves to two runs on five hits, working around four walks while recording four strikeouts, breaking a personal three-game winless streak.
The left-hander also helped himself at the plate, driving in Rick Ankiel and Wilson Ramos with a second-inning single for a 3-0 Nationals lead.
Ramos also drove in a run in the inning and added a two-run homer in the sixth as Washington evened its three-game series with the Braves.
Tommy Hanson (10-5) absorbed the loss, yielding five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 frames.
Alex Gonzalez belted a two-run homer for Atlanta.
