BALTIMORE, July 16 (UPI) -- Alfredo Simon hurled seven solid innings Saturday, helping the Baltimore Orioles break a nine-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory over Cleveland.
Simon (2-2) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, fanning five as the O's notched their first win since July 3. The veteran right-hander was making only his second start after 56 relief appearances.
Michael Gonzalez had to come in for his first save after Orioles closer Kevin Gregg allowed three runs to score in the ninth. Gonzalez retired Grady Sizemore on a grounder with the tying run at second to end the game.
Nick Markakis went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and Felix Pie added a two-run double for the O's.
Tribe starter Carlos Carrasco (8-7) allowed three runs on five hits in a seven-inning effort.
Orlando Cabrera socked a bases-clearing double in the ninth for the Indians, but first-place Cleveland could get no closer.
