MADISON, Miss., July 16 (UPI) -- Chris Kirk put himself in position to win his first PGA Tour event Saturday, rallying for a one-stroke lead after three rounds of the Viking Classic.
Kirk erased a four-shot deficit coming into Saturday's round, carding five birdies on the back nine and eight overall en route to an 8-under-par 64 that put him at 18-under 198 after 54 holes.
Four players were knotted in second place at minus-17, including second round co-leader Peter Lonard, an Australian who fired a 3-under 69.
Also in second were two-time PGA Tour winner D.J. Trahan (66), George McNeill (67) and Sunghoon Kang (64).
Making a big move Saturday was Jim Renner, who began the day eight shots off the lead but jumped to only two off the pace with a 10-under 62.
Sharing sixth with Renner were Tom Pernice Jr. (67) and second round co-leader Hunter Haas (70).
