Gay chorus to sing anthem at MLS game

LOS ANGELES, July 16 (UPI) -- Chivas USA has booked the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles to sing the national anthem on Major League Soccer's first-ever Equality Night, the chorus announced.

The GMCLA is set to perform the anthem at Chivas' July 23 game against the Houston Dynamo at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

In a news release, the organization said Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy has taped a welcome video for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender fans attending the game. Dynamo defender Mike Chabala has previously participated in the NOH8 campaign, opposing California's Proposition 8 -- a constitutional amendment intended to reverse a court ruling that a ban on same-sex marriage violated the California Constitution.

Chivas will host a private reception and offer special seating for Equality Night attendees, the release said.
