BASTAD, Sweden, July 15 (UPI) -- Robin Soderling's straight-set victory Friday led a parade of top-seeded players into the semifinals of the Swedish Open tennis tournament.

Soderling, the No. 1 seed, defeated eighth-seeded Potito Starace 6-3, 6-4. He won 80 percent of the points on serve, losing just 10 points in 10 games and not facing a break point.

Soderling had a service break in each set that allowed him to advance to the semifinals. He won the event in 2009 and was the runner-up last year.

The semifinals will feature the tournament's top four seeds, although fourth-seeded Nicolas Almagro had to win twice Friday to advance.

Weather delays pushed Almagro's second-round match to Friday, but he eventually topped qualifier Guillermo Olaso 6-2, 6-3. He then went against Michael Ryderstedt, who also had a second-round match Friday.

Almagro was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) winner over Ryderstedt. Even with 11 aces Almagro dropped serve three times but was able to come out on top in the tiebreaker.

Second-seeded David Ferrer routed Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1, 6-1 and No. 3-seeed Tomas Berdych beat Blaz Kavcic 6-1, 6-4 in the other quarterfinals.

Soderling will go against Berdych and Ferrer plays Almagro in Saturday's semifinals.
