MLB: Toronto 16, New York Yankees 7

TORONTO, July 14 (UPI) -- Aaron Hill and Eric Thames had two RBI each during an eight-run first inning Thursday that launched Toronto to a 16-7 win over the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays came off the All-Star break with a huge inning that helped extend their winning streak to four games.

New York starter Bartolo Colon (6-5) retired only two of the 11 men he faced, although just three of the eight runs he allowed were earned. A fielding error by third baseman Eduardo Nunez was critical to the inning.

Hill's single drove in the first two runs of the frame and a ground-rule double by Thames delivered the sixth and seventh scores. After Luis Ayala relieved Colon he committed a balk that allowed Yunel Escobar to come in with the eighth run.

The big start allowed the Blue Jays to withstand a pair of homers by Andruw Jones, who had a solo shot during a four-run third and a three-run blast in the sixth. Toronto then pulled away with seven runs over a three-inning span beginning with the sixth.

Toronto pounded out 20 hits while Jo-Jo Reyes (5-7) was hanging on long enough to get the win. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
