Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

INDIANAPOLIS, July 13 (UPI) -- Brian Shaw, who once was considered a front-runner to take over as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, was hired Wednesday as an Indiana Pacers assistant.
Shaw had been an assistant to Los Angeles Coach Phil Jackson since he retired as a player after the 2002-03 season.
When Jackson stepped down following the Lakers' exit in the 2011 playoffs, the franchise hired Mike Brown as head coach.
Shaw will join the staff of Frank Vogel, who was hired to coach the Pacers last week. During his time with the Lakers Shaw was a part of three NBA title teams as a player and two more as a coach.
