EL RENO, Okla., July 13 (UPI) -- University of Oklahoma linebacker Austin Box probably died from a combination of painkillers and an anti-anxiety drug, a medical report said.
Craig and Gail Box of Enid, Okla., released the report Monday, The Oklahoman said. They said Box, 22, had pain from back injuries but they did not believe he had prescriptions for the drugs found in his system.
Box died May 19. He had spent the night with a friend in El Reno, Okla., who called 911 after finding him unconscious in the morning.
While the friend, J.T. Cobble, told an emergency dispatcher that Box took "pain pills," El Reno Police Chief Ken Brown said no pill containers were found. Brown said there was one pill in the house that might have been prescription medication, but it has not been identified.
The drugs found in Box's system were the painkillers oxymorphone, morphine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone and oxycodone as well as alprazolam, the report said.
