

BAD GASTEIN, Austria, July 12 (UPI) -- Top seeds Julia Goerges and Jarmila Gajdosova were handed first-round defeats Tuesday at the Gastein Ladies tennis tournament in Austria.
Goerges, the No. 1 seed, was ousted by Laura Pous-Tio 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Pous-Tio faced one break-point situation in the first and third sets while breaking Goerges' serve five times in those sets.
Pous-Tio is 2-0 in her career versus Goerges, with the other win coming in Bad Gastein in 2007.
Johanna Larsson had six service breaks in a 6-4, 6-2 win over the second-seeded Gajdosova. Larsson won 55 percent of the points when receiving serve. The figure soared to 65 percent in the second set.
Wild-card entrant Patricia Mayr-Achleitner and Carla Suarez Navarro also pulled off upsets. Mayr-Achleitner took out No. 5-seeded Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) while Suarez Navarro was a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 winner over seventh-seeded Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.
Eighth-seeded Ksenia Pervak, who topped Alize Cornet 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, was the only seeded player on Tuesday's 13-match schedule to win.
In other first-round matches, Kristina Barrois defeated Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-3; Nastja Kolar beat Alla Kudryavtseva 6-1, 6-1; Dia Evtimova routed Melanie Klaffner 6-1, 6-0; and Petra Martic advanced over Sofia Shapatava 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Also, Yvonne Meusburger got past Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 7-6 (8-6); Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez took out Paula Ormaechea 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4); Arantxa Parra Santonja held on for a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) win over Olga Govortsova; and Kateryna Bondarenko handed Nuria Llagostera Vives a 6-0, 6-4 loss.
