Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

AUSTIN, Texas, July 10 (UPI) -- David Ferrer prevailed over Mardy Fish in a marathon, four-set match Sunday, handing Spain a 3-1 Davis Cup quarterfinals victory over the United States.
It took Ferrer 4 hours, 11 minutes to gut out his 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) win over Fish, which gave Spain its victory over the United States.
Spain needed only one win in Sunday's reverse singles after Ferrer beat Andy Roddick and Feliciano Lopez downed Fish Friday.
The American doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan kept the United States in it with a victory Saturday.
Spain, which has won four of the last 11 Davis Cup championships, advanced to host France in the September semifinals
