PORTLAND, Ore., July 10 (UPI) -- Osvaldo Alonso's 83rd-minute, penalty-kick goal Sunday capped a second-half comeback that lifted the Seattle Sounders to a 3-2 win over Portland.
Alonso was awarded the penalty kick after midfielder Lamar Neagle was tackled in the box by defender Eric Brunner, who earned a red card on the play. The goal broke a 2-2 tie.
Seattle (9-4-8) had forged the tie 9 minutes earlier when midfielder Mauro Rosales brought the ball down on the right side of the area and fed it to Fredy Montero, who tapped it in past Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins.
Montero also scored in the 57th for the Sounders, who extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight matches.
Portland's Jeff Parke added an own-goal for Seattle.
The Timbers (5-9-3), meanwhile, saw their winless streak reach seven games.
Jorge Perlaza scored for Portland.
