
SAN FRANCISCO, July 10 (UPI) -- Matt Cain threw six shutout innings and Nate Schierholtz went 4-for-4 with an RBI Sunday in the San Francisco Giants' 4-2 win over the New York Mets.
Cain (8-5) scattered five hits and worked around three walks while striking out four for the Giants, who took the rubber match of their three-game series with the Mets.
Brian Wilson came on in the ninth inning and secured the victory with his 26th save despite yielding a run on Justin Turner's double.
Schierholtz delivered an RBI single in the third, handing the Giants a 2-0 lead, and Mike Fontenot went 3-for-5 with a run scored as San Francisco entered the All-Star Game break with a three-game lead in the National League West.
Mets starter Mike Pelfrey (5-8) surrendered two runs on eight hits over six innings.
Turner finished 4-for-5 and Nick Evans cracked a pinch-hit solo homer for New York.
