PITTSBURGH, July 10 (UPI) -- Paul Maholm threw 7 2/3 strong innings and Andrew McCutchen drove in five runs Sunday, boosting the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 9-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Maholm (6-9) racked up his third win in four outings, holding the Cubs to one run on four hits.
The left-hander didn't issue a walk and struck out eight as the Pirates posted their best record at the All-Star Game break (47-43) since 1992.
McCutchen bashed a three-run homer and added a pair of sacrifice flies while Neil Walker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the victors, who took the rubber match of their three-game set with the Cubs.
Chicago's Ramon Ortiz (0-2) was saddled with the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits before being yanked after four innings.
Aramis Ramirez drove in the Cubs' only run.
