PROVIDENCE, R.I., July 10 (UPI) -- Andre Agassi was formally inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., in front of a crowd of hundreds of fans.
Agassi entered the hall Saturday along with Fern Kellmeyer, a veteran of the women's tour and a founding employee of the WTA.
Agassi was named in the Recent Player category and Kellmeyer, known as "Peachy," was selected in the Contributor category, the Long Island (N.Y.) Press reported.
Agassi, however, was the main attraction. His career singles record of 870-274 included 60 titles.
Yanik Delaney of Montreal told the Providence (R.I.) Journal he and his wife, Annick Bussieres, drove overnight from Canada to New England to attend the ceremony. "To be part of this historic event was perfect," he said.
Agassi wore a T-shirt through the hour-long ceremony, held in sweltering conditions.
