Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

BOSTON, July 9 (UPI) -- John Lackey and two Boston relievers combined for a four-hit shutout Saturday and the Red Sox handled Baltimore 4-0.
Lackey (6-8) broke a personal three-game losing streak, shutting the Orioles down on three hits and a walk. He struck out seven for the Red Sox, who won their third straight over the O's and fifth consecutive overall.
Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon finished up the whitewash with a combined 2 1/3 frames of scoreless relief.
Kevin Youkilis went 3-for-4, driving in runs with doubles in the fifth and seven innings, and Josh Reddick sent home two more with a fifth-inning two-bagger for Boston.
Baltimore's Alfredo Simon (1-2) was tagged with the loss after yielding three runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 frames.
