INDIANAPOLIS, July 8 (UPI) -- Kevin Pritchard, former general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers, may be returning to his native Indiana to work for the Pacers.

The Indianapolis Star, citing people familiar with the negotiations, said Pritchard is to be director of player personnel, reporting to Pacers President Larry Bird and General Manager David Morway. Bird and Pritchard played together on the Boston Celtics.

The team and Pritchard agreed to an at-will contract that can be ended at any time, CBS Sports reported, also citing sources.

Pritchard was fired by the Trail Blazers in June 2010, just before the draft. Team executives gave no reason for his dismissal.

The Star said Jim Morris, head of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, made inquiries about Pritchard a few months ago. At the time, he was said to be considering choices if Bird decided to leave the team.
