Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, July 7 (UPI) -- Philadelphia outfielder Shane Victorino and Chicago White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko became the last players voted into the All-Star Game Thursday.
They both won what Major League Baseball refers to as the Final Vote, which gives fans a chance to pick one player from each league who had not previously been announced to the All-Star teams.
Victorino, who also won the Final Vote in 2009, received 9.2 million votes. Andre Ethier of the Los Angeles Dodgers finished second.
Konerko received 8.4 million votes to make the American League team for the fifth time. He finished in front of Detroit's Victor Martinez.
The All-Star Game will be played July 12 on the home field of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
