Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

ANAHEIM, Calif., July 6 (UPI) -- Dan Haren threw a complete-game two-hitter Tuesday in the Los Angeles Angels' 1-0 shutout of Detroit.
Haren (9-5) struck out nine and did not walk a batter in his duel with Tigers ace Justin Verlander (11-4), who had won his last nine decisions.
Verlander scattered seven hits and a run over 7 2/3 innings and struck out eight. Jhonny Peralta and Austin Jackson had Detroit's only two hits.
Erik Aybar accounted for the only run of the game with a double in the second inning that drove in Howie Kendrick, who had singled to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
The win was the 100th of Haren's career and the 10th in the last 12 games for the Angels.
