The converted reliever notched a victory for the fourth time in five starts and gave the Bucs a 45-41 record -- the latest they've been four games over .500 this deep into a season since 1992, when Pittsburgh had its last winning year.
Brandon Wood smacked a three-run homer as the Pirates clinched their three-game series with the last-place Astros.
Houston's Wandy Rodriguez (6-5) lost for the seventh time in eight starts against the Pirates, surrendering five runs on eight hits over six innings.
Clint Barmes had two hits, including a solo homer, for the Astros, who lost their fifth straight and 10th in 11 games.
