CLEVELAND, July 4 (UPI) -- Austin Kearns belted a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning Monday, powering the Cleveland Indians to a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh, the Indians rallied for four runs, notching a victory in the first contest of a three-game series with the Yankees.
The Tribe had runners on first and second third with two outs when Shelley Duncan punched a 2-2 pitch from Yankees starter A.J. Burnett (8-7) to right, scoring Grady Sizemore. The next batter, Kearns, then launched a home run that just cleared the right field wall, putting Cleveland up 4-2.
Carlos Santana added a two-run homer in the eighth for the Indians.
Josh Tomlin (10-4) held the Yankees to two runs on three hits over seven innings, issuing one walk and striking out five, and Chris Perez earned his 20th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Burnett (8-7) yielded four runs on four hits in a seven-inning effort.
Curtis Granderson socked his 23rd homer, a solo shot, and Nick Swisher added a two-run double for New York.
Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, back in action after being placed on the disabled list June 14, went 0-for-4.
