LES ESSARTS, France, July 3 (UPI) -- Norwegian Thor Hushovd gained the yellow jersey signifying the leader of the Tour de France after Stage 2 time trials Sunday at Les Essarts.
Hushovd earned the honor as leader of Garmin-Cervelo team, which won the 14.3-mile time trials in 24 minutes, 48 seconds. Team BMC finished 4 seconds behind and Team Sky claimed third with the same time.
Garmin-Cervelo team member David Millar moved into second in the overall standings, turning in a time of 5 hours, 6 minutes and 25 seconds -- equaling Hushovd's time.
One second behind in third place was Cadel Evans of Team BMC.
The Leopard-Trek squad, headed by brothers Frank and Andy Schleck, finished just 4 seconds behind Garmin-Cervelo, The Shlecks were also tied for fourth overall, each of them 4 seconds off Hushovd's pace.
The Tour de France switches to a 123-mile trek for Monday's Stage 3, from Olonne-sur-Mer to Redon.
