
DENVER, July 1 (UPI) -- Juan Nicasio allowed three hits in eight innings Friday and Mark Ellis had three RBI in his Colorado debut, leading the Rockies past Kansas City 9-0.
Nicasio (3-1) struck out four and walked two in the seventh start of his major league career.
Ellis was in his 10th season with Oakland when Colorado obtained him a trade this week. In his first game for the Rockies he hit a two-run homer in the fifth and had an RBI double in the sixth.
Troy Tulowitzki hit a two-run home run in the third and Charlie Blackmon delivered a solo shot in the eighth as part of a 13-hit attack.
Kansas City lost its fourth in a row and Colorado snapped a two-game skid. The Rockies won for only the second time in seven games.
The loss went to Danny Duffy (1-3), who gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings.
