Police: Prep star's dad caused fatal fight

NEW YORK, June 29 (UPI) -- An incident in which a New York City high school football star was stabbed to death was precipitated by the teen's father, police said Wednesday.

The fatal violence only hours after the Tuesday graduation of running back Isayah Muller, 19, from Truman High School in the Bronx, was started when his father, Andre Muller, 40, attacked two parking lot attendants, New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

Kelly told WNYW-TV, New York, that Andre Muller, who has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1990, allegedly assaulted the attendants with a snow shovel after accusing them of stealing a $200 bottle of cologne from his car.

The commissioner said Isayah Muller "participated in the assault" and was stabbed with a "homemade shank" by one of the workers, the New York Daily News reported.

Andre Muller has been charged with assault, menacing, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, the newspaper said.

Isayah Muller led Truman High School to the New York city championship last fall and had just finished his commencement ceremony at Lehman College before he was killed.
