Notre Dame's Floyd given probation

SOUTH BEND, Ind., June 29 (UPI) -- Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd was given one year of probation Wednesday for driving while intoxicated, the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune reported.

The newspaper said Floyd pleaded guilty in St. Joseph County Traffic and Misdemeanor Court to one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The 21-year-old player had been arrested March 20 on Notre Dame's campus.

The Tribune said Floyd also will lose his driver's license for 90 days and must use an ignition interlock device for six months after getting his license back.

In addition, Floyd must attend a victim impact panel.

Floyd, who could have been jailed for up to one year, was Notre Dame's leading receiver last season. Coach Brian Kelly suspended Floyd following his arrest, though he allowed him to participate in voluntary summer workouts and conditioning exercises.

Floyd said in January he would return to Notre Dame for his senior season.

Court documents showed that in the March driving incident Floyd failed three field sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.19 percent -- more than twice Indiana's legal limit of 0.08.
