Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

SAN DIEGO, June 29 (UPI) -- Kyle Phillips drove in the go-ahead run with a second-inning double Tuesday and the San Diego Padres beat Kansas City 4-2 for their sixth win in seven games.
After driving in Cameron Maybin to put the Padres ahead 2-1, Phillips scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Venable. Maybin went 3-for-3, and Venable Ryan Ludwick each drove in a run for San Diego.
The Padres outhit the Royals 11-6 in support of Clayton Richard (4-9), who allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five while walking one over seven innings. Heath Bell finished the game with his 22nd save.
Jeff Francoeur homered and Matt Treanor drove in the other run for the Royals, who have lost eight of their last 10.
