DETROIT, June 29 (UPI) -- Angel Pagan and Daniel Murphy both had four RBI in the latest New York power surge Wednesday that sent the Mets to a 16-9 victory over Detroit.

New York scored four times in the first inning, produced 20 hits and extended its winning streak to four games -- during which the Mets have piled up 52 runs.

The Mets had not scored more than nine times in a game all season until starting an outburst leading up to Wednesday's game that had seen them defeat Texas 14-5 and 8-5 and then crush Detroit 14-3.

Wednesday's offensive show allowed the Mets to overcome five homers by the Tigers that accounted for eight runs.

Scott Hairston highlighted New York's opening inning with a three-run triple. Pagan had an RBI single in the third, doubled home a run in the eighth and had a two-run double in the ninth.

Murphy had two-run singles in both the seventh and eighth.

Miguel Cabrera had two of Detroit's home runs, one of them a three-run blast in the sixth. Andy Dirks added a two-run shot for the Tigers and both Ryan Raburn and Jhonny Peralta had solo homers.

Detroit trailed 8-2 before battling back to face only a 10-8 deficit going into the eighth. New York then struck for four more runs in that inning featuring key hits from Pagan and Murphy.

Chris Capuano (7-7) got the win, even though he allowed five runs on six hits in just five innings. Phil Coke (1-8) was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits in four innings to take the loss.
