PHILADELPHIA, June 28 (UPI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies put closer Ryan Madson on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right hand contusion.

Madson has not pitched since June 18. His stint on the DL is retroactive to June 19, the National League team said.

He has 15 saves in 16 chances to go along with a 3-1 record and 2.03 earned run average in 31 appearances this season.

The Phillies also are still without the services of regular closer, Brad Lidge, so are expected to press left-hander Antonio Bastardo into service in the closer's role.

Philadelphia has called up right-hander Andrew Carpenter from Lehigh Valley to fill Madson's roster spot. He is 5-0 with a 1.58 ERA in 24 games for the Class AAA farm club this year.

The Phillies are in first place in the NL East with a 49-30 record, 4 1/2 games ahead of Atlanta.
