
PITTSBURGH, June 26 (UPI) -- Andrew Miller tossed six strong innings Sunday, notching his first win for Boston and leading the Red Sox to a 4-2 victory over Pittsburgh.
Miller (1-0), who was making his second start for the team since being recalled from Class AAA Pawtucket, limited the Pirates to two runs (one earned) on five hits, walking two and fanning four.
The 26-year-old left-hander replaced the injured Clay Buchholz in the Red Sox starting rotation.
Alfredo Alceves and Daniel Bard each hurled a scoreless inning of relief and Jonathan Papelbon notched his 14th save as the Red Sox salvaged one win in a three-game interleague set against the Pirates.
Dustin Pedroia broke a 2-2 tie with a seventh-inning, run-scoring ground out off Tim Wood (0-2) for the Red Sox.
Bucs starter James McDonald allowed only two unearned runs on five hits in a six-inning effort.
