SEATTLE, June 25 (UPI) -- Felix Hernandez broke out of a recent slump with a two-hit performance Friday, sending the Seattle Mariners to a 5-1 win over Florida.
Hernandez (8-6) had allowed 11 runs in his three previous starts, but he struck out 10 while allowing the lone Florida run. Seattle ended a three-game losing streak.
Although the game was played in Seattle, Florida was listed as the home team. The series with the Mariners was originally scheduled for Miami, but had to be moved because Sun Life Stadium in Florida was being prepared for a U2 concert.
Seattle batted first, as if it was the visiting team, and no designated hitter was used. That will also be the case for the second and third games of the series.
Miguel Olivo drove in three of the Seattle runs, one of them on a fielder's choice grounder during a three-run seventh and two more on his 12th homer of the season in the ninth.
Ricky Nolasco (4-4) gave up three runs on just four hits in seven innings to take the loss.
