SAN DIEGO, June 25 (UPI) -- Jesus Guzman's first major-league homer highlighted a six-run seventh inning Friday that sent the San Diego Padres to an 11-2 rout of Atlanta.
The Padres held only a 2-0 lead through five innings before putting together an offensive explosion that brought them their third straight victory. Atlanta had a four-game winning streak snapped.
Guzman, called up earlier this month, was playing in his seventh game of the season and the 19th of his big league career. His two-run homer finished off a big inning in which the Padres scored six times on four hits while sending 11 men to the plate. Cameron Maybin had a two-run triple in the inning.
San Diego started the late surge with a three-run sixth that featured a two-run single by Alberto Gonzalez.
Tim Stauffer (3-4) benefited from the 12-hit San Diego attack to get the win. He gave up two runs on four hits while striking out nine in seven innings.
The loss went to Derek Lowe (4-5), who surrendered five runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
