CHICAGO, June 25 (UPI) -- Jake Peavy hurled four innings of scoreless relief and Ramon Castro drove in two runs Saturday, sparking the Chicago White Sox to a 3-0 win over Washington.
Peavy (4-1), normally a starter, made his first career relief appearance and was very effective, holding the Nationals to one hit and striking out seven.
Peavy, who had been sidelined by a groin strain, logged the relief stint after White Sox starter John Danks left the game in the second inning with a strained right oblique.
Brian Bruney tossed 2 1/3 frames of shutout relief and Sergio Santos racked up his 15th save with a 1-2-3 ninth as the White Sox evened their three-game interleague series with Washington at one win apiece.
The Chisox led 1-0 for most the game but then scored two more on Castro's broken-bat single to right in the eighth inning.
Tom Gorzelanny (2-6) pitched well for the Nats but suffered his fourth loss in four starts. The left-hander allowed only one run on seven hits through seven innings, striking out eight.
