SONOMA, Calif., June 24 (UPI) -- Joey Logano, whose only other Sprint Cup pole came on a short track, qualified first on a road course and will start out front in the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Logano traveled around the 1.99-mile, 12-turn Infineon Raceway course in 93.256 mph. The first pole of his career came at the half-mile track in Bristol, Tenn.
"This is the last place that I figured I would get a pole," Logano said. "I've never had a top-10 starting position here, and I've never finished that good here either."
His best finish on the road course was 19th in 2009.
Jamie McMurray qualified second for Sunday's race at 93.223 mph, followed by Paul Menard, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman. Hamlin won last week's race in Michigan.
The Top 10 qualifiers were rounded out by Kasey Kahne, A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose, Clint Bowyer and Brian Vickers.
Kyle Busch, who had won the pole for the last three races in the Sprint Cup series, qualified 11th.
