MUNICH, Germany, June 23 (UPI) -- Henrik Stenson fired an 8-under-par 64 Thursday and owns a 1-stroke lead at the European Tour's BMW International Open in Germany.
Stenson had an eagle and seven birdies against one bogey despite rough conditions caused by afternoon downpours en route to the lead.
Gary Boyd bogeyed his last hole of the day and is one stroke back at 7-under. Four players are tied for third at 6-under 66 and three more are three strokes behind Stenson.
Stenson opened his round with a birdie and added another at the fifth hole before his eagle at the par-5, 481-yard sixth hole. A birdie at No. 9 put him at 5-under but he had a bogey at the 10th hole.
He birdied three of the next four holes, however, and moved in front alone with a closing 4 at the par-5 18th hole.
