Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, June 22 (UPI) -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom Wednesday was awarded his seventh Norris Trophy, indicative of the NHL's top blueliner.
Lidstrom, 41, won the award for the seventh time in 10 years (2001-03, 2006-08, 2011), tying Doug Harvey for second-most career Norris trophies. Boston Bruins great Bobby Orr has the most with eight.
The Swedish defenseman took the Norris despite finishing his 19th season with the Red Wings with a minus-2 rating. He did, however, compile the second-most points among defensemen last season with 62 (16 goals, 46 assists) in 82 games.
Lidstrom announced Monday he was returning to play another season for Detroit.
