
ST. LOUIS, June 22 (UPI) -- Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley each stroked two-run singles during a nine-run eighth inning Tuesday that carried Philadelphia to a 10-2 win over St. Louis.
Trailing 2-1, the Phillies sent 14 men to the plate in the eighth, collecting five hits and four walks while Cardinals hurlers hit a pair of Philadelphia batters with pitches.
Jason Motte hit Placido Polanco with a pitch to force in a run while Ben Francisco and Carlos Ruiz each drew bases-loaded walks in the big inning.
Ruiz finished 4-for-4 as the Phils rallied for a victory in the first of a three-game set.
Roy Halladay started but got a no-decision after holding St. Louis to one run on four hits over six innings. Michael Stutes (2-0) was credited with the win despite allowing a run in the seventh.
Trever Miller (0-1) was tagged with the loss after Cards starter Kyle McClellan limited Philadelphia to one run on five hits in a seven-inning effort.
